Beware of this Modus Operandi

Women who drives are in a habit of placing their bags on the passenger seat because it’s the easy thing to do and because these women are not aware of this new modus operandi.

Last September 16, mom decided to grab a bite at Jollibee Marcos Hi-way near Shell gasoline station. She left her bag on the passenger seat and just brought her wallet to the fast food – this may be the time when her car was spotted with valuables inside.

After eating, she went in her car and someone from the outside knocked at her window to warn her about her flat tire. She instinctively went down to check and while doing so, the person who knocked at her window immediately took her bag from the passenger seat and ran away. While that was happening, another person approached my mom to offer his help in running after the thief by driving my mom’s car. If my mom hadn’t thought fast, she might have instinctively said yes but thank God she didn’t or that incident might have been an instant carnap.

My mom told the Jollibee security guard to run after the thief but he just said that the thief had gone too far already, but that was not the case. The security guard’s reaction made us doubt his integrity and made us think that maybe he was part of it all. Tsk… Mom came back and coordinated with the crew of the fastfood but they told her that knew nothing about the entire incident – another tsk, because it could only mean that the guard hadn’t reported the incident.

Anyway, moral lesson of the story are as follows:

  1. Do not trust strangers.
  2. Do not go out of your car once you’re already in it, especially with the presence of suspicious individuals.
  3. Park where it is safe – normally malls.
  4. When someone is warning you about flat tires, just check them elsewhere.
  5. The most important thing is to call the bank where you have savings and checking accounts; and where you own credit card to report what happened and to advise them to freeze all of your accounts temporarily.
